Pompano Beach has come a long way since the first two permanent residents arrived in 1896 with the railroad. Stories say the city received its name from what the settlers had for dinner the night before, pompano, a fish from the local beach.
The approximately 105,000 year round residents are joined by the seasonal residents to make this a city of about 150,000 enjoying the abundant sunshine and outdoors of this friendly city. Pompano Beach has activities for all.
The 2011 Real Estate Statistics: Shows that there are quite a few affordable homes. There were 735 Single Family homes sold with an average sale price of $162,502 and median price of $86,500. The condo / Townhomes sold 1456 homes with an average sale price of $122,985 and a median price of $84,500.
As stated on the Visitors page of the city web site, “If you are looking for a place to call home where you can put in a days work and still have time to: play a quick nine on a beautiful course, wet a line in waters inhabited by trophy class denizens of the deep, or just unwind with warm sand between your toes and watch the moon rise over the Gulf Stream then Pompano Beach is your kind of place. However, if you can only take your “fun in the sun” in small doses, no problem, plan your next vacation with us and you can leave when you’ve had your fill.”
